British Association of Rodentologists
G.B.A.R is a course aimed at members of the public who wish to become qualified as rodentologists by studying in a Open University style distance learning format. The course consists of three parts each divided into modules. The three parts are as follows:
Part 1: Anatomy
Part 2: Physiology
Part 3: Practical Nursing, Breeding & Stock Management and Pharmacology
(Note: There is also a clinical history paper as an additional study course, primarily aimed at those working in a diagnostic environment such as Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses and practising Rodentologists.)
The time required to complete all three parts is dependent upon the time a student has available, however, there is no upper time limit so the reality is that it can take as long as it takes. Students can therefore study at a pace that suits them according to the time they have available.
The course is designed to be studied in sequence, i.e. Part 1 to be completed before embarking on Part 2 which should be completed before commencing with Part 3.
Students generally will have completed the RHA course (Parts 1 &2) and this is a requirement for any student if all three parts of the G.B.A.R course are to be completed. G.B.A.R Part 1 can be embarked upon by students who have not completed the RHA course but can go no further with their studies on completion of Part 1.

Qualification is by examination and requires a correct answer percentage of 80% and over, for which successful candidates will be issued a Diploma. Further to this, your name will be published in our annual Qualified Rodentologists Register for which a small yearly administration charge is levied.
(All G.B.A.R exams have to be done at Cambridge by previous appointment with Vedra Stanley-Spatcher.)
Apart from veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses whose use of training is in conjunction with their existing occupation, qualified BAR members have gone on to achieve the following:
